Empowerment is a humanitarian development project that sets out to move people from the circle of need into the circle of production: small businesses, benevolent loans, training, and a way into the labour market.
What it is really building is a person able to stand on their own, and to contribute to their community with dignity and independence.
We strengthen the person in order to make a strong community. Real giving hands someone a means of living, not a temporary hand-out.
The change it makes is real: people move from receiving help to supporting themselves. It also puts life back into the local economy, restores the habit of working and producing, and builds a community that is stronger for giving rather than depending.
