The association was founded to meet a community's most basic needs — food and clothing for families in difficulty — and this first stage was largely about responding to a crisis as it happened.

How Wijdan grew
A journey of growth
Wijdan Charity Association has passed through several stages that shaped its growth, moving from a small initiative delivering basic aid to an organisation working for lasting change in the communities it serves.
Widening the work
In time the work widened to education, health and building people's capacity: schooling and training courses that raise professional skills and help people out of poverty rather than only through it.
Building partnerships
Reaching further meant working with others. Partnership agreements with local and international organisations widened the reach of the projects and the resources behind them.
Going digital
Online platforms made giving and staying in touch — with donors and with the people helped — simpler, and a better system for managing resources made the work both more effective and easier to account for.
Sustainability and invention
This stage was about programmes built to last: social innovation and smarter ways of running projects, so that what is done goes on mattering long after it is done.
Recognition
The work has been recognised by local and international bodies, which has strengthened the association's standing in the charitable sector.
These stages carried Wijdan Charity Association from a small organisation to one of the established names in supporting people in need, with sustainability and lasting effect at the centre of it.
Wijdan believes that giving which lasts is the way to a better future for everyone.
Looking ahead
The next stage is about economic empowerment: development projects that reduce the need for direct aid, so that the people we support become people who produce.
