Our Mission

Practical programmes that communities asked for and can sustain.

To reduce the impact of poverty, displacement and disaster by delivering practical programmes that communities have asked for and can sustain after we leave.

What that means in practice

A mission statement is only useful if it can be used to refuse things. Ours rules out four categories of work.

  • Anything nobody asked for. If a community committee has not requested it, we do not fund it, however good the idea looks from a distance.
  • Anything that cannot be maintained. Equipment without a service route and a trained caretaker is a liability handed to somebody with fewer resources than us.
  • Anything we cannot measure. Every programme commits to an outcome at launch and is reported against it, including when the answer is uncomfortable.
  • Anything that displaces local capability. Where a local contractor, supplier or clinician can do the work, they do the work.

Our commitments to donors

Your donation is allocated to the campaign you choose at checkout, and only to that campaign. You receive a receipt immediately and can view it at any time from a permanent link. Where a campaign exceeds its target, surplus funds go to the next phase of the same programme, and the transfer is recorded in the annual report.

We will not sell, rent or exchange your details with anyone. If you would rather not hear from us again, one reply saying so is enough.
